Scott Styris quits international cricket

Scott Styris , New Zealand's allrounder, decides to quit international cricket. Though Styris took retirement from Tests in 2008, he continued playing ODIs and T20Is for New Zealand and also was a part of Chennai's successful IPL campaign in 2011. Styris has remained an integral part of New Zealand's middle order and represented New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2011.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed representing my country," Styris said. "It has been an honour and a pleasure to play for New Zealand alongside so many quality players over the years and to have been a part of many key moments during that time.

This all-rounder of Australian origin played significant roles in some matches for New Zealand. The most memorable being his Test debut against the West Indies where he scored a century and also took wickets which resulted in New Zealand's first ever Test series win in the the West Indies. He was also a part of New Zealand's successful campaign in the Champion's trophy held in Kenya. "Winning the Champions Trophy in Kenya was awesome given it was also the first time New Zealand won an ICC event. It was also memorable to score a hundred and take wickets on my Test debut, knowing it contributed to a historic series win."

Overall Styris played 248 matches and had a batting average of almost 32 and made 6647 runs in all matches combined. He also took 175 wickets in his career with best figures of 6/25 against the West Indies. He had an average of 36.04, 32.48 and 21.40 in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.

However, Styris is keen to play domestic T20 events as he said that he enjoys playing T20 and will continue playing in the IPL as well as in New Zealand's domestic tournament.
New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan said he was aware Styris' departure was imminent for some time, but the team would miss his consistency.

"Scott has been one of our most consistent performers and a real go-to man in big games," Vaughan said. "He was someone who always seemed to play his best under pressure. His competitive attitude and the leadership he demonstrated while in the New Zealand team will be missed.''
